One of the benefits of following a business on social media as a customer is gaining information, both about the business and potentially about the business’ field as well. Your business’ social media accounts should provide this informative value to your customers as much as possible, but that’s not always easy to do. Let us give you a few tips on how to get started providing this value in your social media posts.
Always share updates about your business on social media
It’s one of the easiest ways to provide value–make sure any and all updates about your business are being shared on your social media accounts. If it is news that you would put on your business’ website, newsletter, or other communications, it should be shared on social media as well. This can include changes in operating hours, emergency closures, or news about new products or services. Whatever the update may be, putting it out on social media is a great way to spread the word and keep your customers informed and involved.
Use your posts to delve into specific information about your business
Each post on social media can be a chance to provide some inside information, both about your business and about your products/services. Do you have a frequently asked question about your pricing structure? Draft a post answering that question and share it with your followers! Are there special features or benefits to one of your products? Explain all the details in a post! Use your social media accounts to give information that embellishes the information about your business that is already online.
Behind-the-scenes posts can also be very popular to share with your followers. Filming a video of how your products are packaged or how a dish in your restaurant is made may seem routine and boring, but your customers may love a look into the process through which they receive your products or services.
Share tips and tricks of the trade on social media
You don’t want to give your services away for free, but sharing some advice about your industry is an easy way to establish credibility, and perhaps draw customers in for more. For example, if you run a bakery, try sharing a basic baking tip once a week on Facebook, or create a how-to diagram for making your own edible decorations on Instagram. These posts are great conversation-starters, and they might even interest viewers enough to transform them into customers!
Be genuine
Your social media posts don’t have to be complicated to offer value, but they do need to be genuine. It’s easy for customers to spot a “salesy” post from a business, where it’s obvious that the only goal of the post is to sell something. While you definitely want to hopefully transform post views into sales, there are so many benefits to social media beyond advertising your business. Social media in general is about connections, and by creating connections with your followers, you can turn a one-time Facebook page visitor into a loyal and returning customer.
So how do you make sure your social media posts are genuine? Ask questions that you actually want the answers to–and then respond to comments if you get them. Feature real reviews and feedback from customers, and be honest about how you’re addressing any issues. And lastly, don’t make every social media post about selling your products or services. Instead, keep posts advertising your business short and sweet, and mix them up with informational posts that might serve your customers.
