Spring cleaning is a popular annual trend, but have you considered spring cleaning your social media strategy? Periodically reviewing how and what you post on social media can make your strategy more efficient, effective, and enjoyable – here are a few of our tips for getting started!

Take a look at who you’re following

Are you following other accounts through your business or organization? If not, you should be – following similar businesses or organizations in your area is a great way to stay in touch with local happenings and create relationships. But you can also oversaturate your following – after all, your main focus with your social media accounts should be posting your own content. For a spring clean, go through who you follow and see what content you can recall seeing from other accounts. If you can’t remember seeing anything, try following some additional accounts and putting a few minutes a day into reviewing their content. If you feel overwhelmed, take a look at who you’re following and consider unfollowing (or muting) those whose content might not be relevant to you anymore.

Take a look at what you’re posting

Auditing your content is something that you’ll likely want to do more often than once a year in the spring, but now is still a great time to do it. What sorts of posts are effective for you, and what aren’t? The goal of spring cleaning your posts should be to spend more time on the content that’s working for your business or organization, and less time on the content that’s not. Try to incorporate these findings into your social media strategy moving forward throughout spring and the rest of the year.

Take a look at your schedule

Have you gone a long time in between social media posts? Have you been posting every day, and are starting to feel burnt out? Spring often brings schedule changes, so now is a good time to evaluate what your social media schedule might look like for at least the next few months. Maybe that means fewer posts, or spending more time on creating, posting, and curating your social media content on certain days of the week. Whatever you do, make sure your strategy works for you!
