Social media is well-known for its strength in promoting sales for businesses. It’s easy to develop posts to feature specific products and services, and you can even make sales directly through social media platforms.
But sales aren’t the only reason why your small business should be on social media–here are our top three reasons to be active on social media and utilize platforms to support your business:
Making connections with your local community
Social media platforms can offer a great way to make virtual connections with the community around your business. For example, by joining the Facebook Group created for the town that your business is located in, you can keep your finger on the pulse of what’s happening locally, while also offering your services to those who live close-by to your business and therefore might be likely to frequent it. Facebook Groups in particular are built around the idea of a virtual community, so they can be a great way to interact with others.
Increasing word-of-mouth opportunities
These days, lots of our interactions with other people take place online. By having a Facebook page or an Instagram account, you’re making it that much easier for someone who wants to recommend your business to simply tag it, directly linking someone new to all the information they might need about your business. It also makes it easier for someone new to stumble across your business for the first time and explore your information and offerings at their own pace.
Telling the story of your business
It’s hard to give a customer a full picture of your business while you’re trying to make a sale. Social media allows you to paint a fuller picture of your business through regular posts, photos, and videos. It puts you in charge of telling your story your way, and it allows you to do so over time as new employees, products, services, and more are introduced. Someone following you on social media might be able to see that story play out over time, or if they’re a newcomer to your business, they can scroll back through your posts and still get that fuller picture of who you are and what your business is all about.
