As we move into summer, enjoy a throwback to one of our previous blog posts!

We’re well into summertime, and that might mean you have a lot more time on your hands! Or it might mean that you’re busier than ever with your business and have no time to stay on top of your social media.

Either way, this season provides some different opportunities for business owners managing their social media accounts. Read on to hear our tips on keeping up as things heat up.

Planning is key

Perhaps you’re planning a vacation or a staycation, or perhaps you’re not going anywhere at all. No matter what your summer plans are, planning out your social media content in advance is a great way to ensure that your summer is easy and breezy.

Think about posting a few different times per week, and consider scheduling your posts in advance if you’re not going to be able to post directly for a few days. There are numerous scheduling tools for social media out there, each with its own pros and cons, but two we can recommend are Meta Business Suite and Hootsuite.

Switch up your content (and your offerings)

With customers potentially going away for the summer, social media is a great way to keep them engaged with what’s going on at home, and that includes what’s going on with your business. So make sure that your social media posts include any updates about business practices, such as if you’ll be closed for a week or two for vacation. You can also keep your customers interested with different types of posts than you might normally make. Consider offering a holiday discount (or a “Just Because” discount, to really make your customers feel special), or run a free promotion for the kids who visit your business. You might also want to partner up with another business in town to offer something together, especially if that business is seasonal for the summer. (For example, nothing will entice customers on hot days like a coupon for a free ice cream cone from the stand down the street with a purchase from your business.)

Have some fun with your visuals

If you design all the visual content for your social media posts, now is the time to have some fun with it. Think beach umbrellas, foaming waves, vibrant sunsets over rocky mountains–the possibilities are endless! Your customers will love seeing seasonal imagery when they view your posts online!

Plan your next moves

If this summer is bringing a lot of downtime for you, consider using it to plot out what you’ll be doing next, both on social media and in your business. Take advantage of extra time to brainstorm new offerings and how you could attract new customers online (you could even preview or hint at these offerings via social media, to build suspense among existing followers). Then, once fall rolls around, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running with something brand new!

One thing to start thinking about now is fall themes, such as back-to-school. What can your business offer to those who might be heading into another school year? Is there a special sale you’ll be putting on? These are some good things to start thinking about now, before September hits!
