The new year is a great time to start making resolutions, whether they are personal or business-related. It’s also a great time to change up what you’re doing on social media if you haven’t in a while. But these changes don’t have to be drastic–here are a few resolutions you can make to implement small but effective changes to your social media game in 2023.

Learn more about the platforms you’re using

Perhaps you have a Facebook page or an Instagram account for your business or organization, but you don’t really know a lot about Facebook and Instagram as a platform. In 2023, consider setting aside 10-15 minutes a week to learn more about the social media platforms you’re using, and what best practices and features might exist that you haven’t tapped into. It doesn’t take a lot of time to learn a lot about these platforms, and to gain skills and knowledge that you can use to improve your social media presence all year long.

Specify your target audience

On social media, a lot of your success has to do with defining your target audience. For example, Facebook is a very popular platform for people between the ages of 35-44, but if your regular customers are in their 20’s or 50’s, perhaps Facebook won’t be as effective as other social media platforms for your advertising purposes. Once you figure out some of the specifics surrounding your target audience, you can then decide if your efforts are best served on your current social media platforms, or on new ones.

Brainstorm new kinds of posts to try

Maybe you’ve fallen into a posting rut, where you throw up the same kind of content on social media every week and don’t change it up. Or maybe you haven’t sat down in a while to do some research and gain inspiration for different kinds of posts to try. The new year is a great time to do so–consider making a list of new posts or posting styles you might want to try in 2023. For example, consider running a giveaway, or adding more exciting calls-to-action to your posts to get people engaged. Or, if you don’t typically use a lot of images in your posts, try setting up a plan to include more photos or graphics. Getting creative is a great way to switch things up, as well as keep things interesting for you as the content creator.

Connect with other small business owners or organization leaders

One of the best ways to gain support, stay motivated, and get new ideas is to connect with other people in your position as a business owner or organization leader. Everyone has something to learn from each other, and having conversations can give you some inspiration for new things to post or new ways to use social media.
