Engagement is a big part of any social media platform. The term “engagement” includes things like Likes, comments, and other interactions that take place between you and your followers online. Not only can engagement play a role in determining the success of your social media posts, but it also serves as a metric for the communication that is taking place online between your business and its customers.

So how do you increase and improve that communication? Read on for our tips and tricks!

Include a Call to Action in your posts

A Call to Action (commonly referred to as a CTA) is a great way to encourage followers to interact with your social media posts, which in turn can increase engagement. CTAs don’t have to be complicated–a simple question or statement at the end of your post can easily get the ball rolling for readers. Examples of CTAs can include:

  • “Like this post if you love this product!”
  • “What is your favorite thing to order off our menu? Tell us in the comments!”
  • “Tag someone in the comments who deserves to treat themselves to our spa services!”

The most important thing to remember is that CTAs should be sincere. If you’re asking your followers to comment an answer to a question or send you a message with any follow-up questions, then you should genuinely want to hear what your followers have to say and be prepared to respond appropriately. Comments, messages, and Likes are great leads for further information about what your customers want, so use your Calls to Action to mine for that information.

Engage on social media yourself

Social media is a great way to connect with both customers and other businesses, but that connection should be a two-way street. When you receive messages or comments on your business’ social media accounts, be sure to respond to them promptly. And if you know of any other local businesses in your area who also have a social media account, consider following and Liking their posts. By giving some engagement yourself, you could earn your business even more engagement.

Consider running a promotion

Everyone loves a deal, and running promotions on social media is an excellent way to offer something tangible to your followers in exchange for engagement. Promotions on Instagram and Facebook are quite common, and most are run in a giveaway format: entries are based on those who have Liked or commented on a post, and a winner is selected to receive a gift card or products from those entries. You can also offer discounts to new followers, or create a promotion all your own! Just be sure to check the rules of the social media platform that you are running the promotion on–some platforms have specific guidelines for how a giveaway can be set up.
