New Year’s Resolutions for Small Business Owners

It’s been quite a year, and at Wreath Writing and Marketing Services, we hope your 2020 was filled with as many good moments as possible.

Setting professional goals can be just as important as setting personal ones, and the new year is a great time to start thinking about what you want to work towards for the next 365 days. We’re including some possible social media-based resolutions for small business owners below.

Take your social media to the next level

This may sound like a daunting goal, but it can be accomplished just by doing a tiny bit more than what you’re already doing. Do you usually post two times a week to your business’ Facebook page? Try posting three times. Do you include images, graphics, and/or videos in your posts? If not, try incorporating visuals into half your posts to start. Do you respond to every comment and message? If not, try to do so. Small steps like these can help your accounts gain more attention, and hopefully boost your business at the same time.

Learn something new

Even if you’ve been using social media your entire life, it’s practically impossible to learn everything you need to know just from personal experience. That’s because a lot of platforms include additional features for businesses that you might never have come across as an individual user. Marketing tactics can also be something that you haven’t learned about, but can come in handy when trying to sell your products or services. So in 2021, try learning something new! Buy a book, take a class, or join a Facebook group full of other small business owners. You don’t have to invest much money if you don’t want to either–HubSpot Academy has some extremely helpful videos and courses for free!

Take an honest look at what’s working and what isn’t

This is a periodic goal that can be done more often than once a year, but it’s worth doing as we collectively turn to a new chapter. Look at your social media metrics and your posts over the past year, and take note: what sort of posts have been successful? Which ones have the most Likes or comments? What did customers ask you about the most? Did you have any failures or setbacks, and what did you learn from them?

These findings can lead you to more successful outcomes. For example, if you notice your followers like a particular style of post, you can copy that style in future posts to make your business’ page more engaging. Or perhaps the social media platform you’re using isn’t the most effective, but adding an account on another platform might be. If your business is already on Facebook, maybe this is the year for it to join Instagram or Twitter. You might be led in a different direction than where you thought you were going, but you might find it’s a better path for your business.

Celebrate every victory!

Being critical can be important, because it can help you to improve. But we also need to celebrate the good things. So in 2021, make sure you celebrate your business’ victories as well! Show your appreciation for customers and employees both in-person and on social media, and don’t be afraid to take a step back now and then to appreciate how far you’ve come.

Wreath Writing and Marketing Services wishes you a peaceful rest of 2020 and a bright and joyous 2021!
