Social media has a lot of benefits for businesses, and, in this day and age, it’s almost essential to have a social media presence if you’re trying to attract and sustain a following for your products or services.
But that doesn’t mean that it’s easy to keep up with regularly posting content. There might not always be a fun event or spectacular discount to post about, and there might be days where you just stare at your screen for minutes at a time, blankly wondering what you could post to keep your accounts updated.
Does this sound familiar? Read on to get some ideas on how to make posting to your business accounts easier.
Build up a stockpile of posts.
It’s something we’ve written about before, but it bears repeating. Preparation is key, and if you prepare posts in advance, it will probably be easier to come up with content, as the creative juices will be flowing and you won’t feel the pressure of having to make a post that day.
Here are some post ideas that we use when creating posts for Wreath Writing and Marketing Services:
- Run polls about relevant holidays/events, or ask lighthearted questions to get to know your followers better.
- Look up National Days (for example, National Coffee Day), and design a fun post about that day to engage your followers.
- Promote charities or events that you contribute towards through your business.
- Do features of your clients, and try Q&A’s with them.
It’s a good idea to try and create graphics for these posts in advance too, as graphics can sometimes take more time to create than the text.
Offer advice.
While you don’t want to give your services away for free, offering advice or tips on certain topics can help engage your audience in your business. Try sharing your business’ blog posts or short social media posts on issues that are relevant to the services that you provide. For example, if you own a bakery, try offering tips on creating the perfect sugar cookie (and definitely include a picture of some of your own scrumptious sugar cookies). Giving advice or tips can be an easy way to promote your business while still offering your followers something useful.
Share content from other pages on Facebook.
Sharing content from other pages or users is a great option for a few reasons. It provides new content for you, in the form of a shared post on your business’ Facebook page. That is a win in that your page gets updated, but it also builds connections between your page and the page or user that you shared the content from. Perhaps you will make a new business connection by sharing the blog post of another person in your field. Either way, your followers also get a break from your regular posts.
Consider a scheduling tool.
It can be hard to remember to log on to your social media accounts regularly to keep them updated, especially if you want to post at specific times. Scheduling and management tools, like Facebook Creator Studio or Hootsuite, allow you to schedule posts for different social media platforms in advance, so you can craft all your posts for the week or month in a day, and then sit back and watch them go live when the time comes. If you have blocks of time to devote to making and scheduling posts, this can be an effective way to go.
In short, some advance planning and a little research into other accounts in your field can make updating your business’ social media accounts much easier.
