Perhaps you just started your small business, or maybe you’ve been working at it for a while. Adding more customers to your client base can be helpful for your business at any stage, as long as you and your business can manage it. In general, more clients means more profit for you, as well as strong reviews for your business if your client feels that you did a good job. All of this is great, but how do you get to that point? Read on to find some tips for increasing your clientele.

Always be accessible.

You never know when you might meet a potential future customer. It is important, therefore, to be prepared, and to have your information up to date. Carry around a few business cards in case you meet people who are interested in your business while you are out and about. Additionally, make sure that the information on your website is accurate, and that any links on it take the user to where you want them to go. It can be very easy for a faulty link or a mistyped email address to cause you to lose business rather than gaining it.

Reach out via platforms like Craigslist or Indeed.

There are some negative impressions around sites like Craigslist, but stay with us here. As long as you are careful and safe when using Craigslist, there is no reason why you cannot use it to find actual clients. Craigslist’s categories make it easy to search for job openings or gigs in the same field as your business, and it is just as easy to send the poster an email requesting more information or offering your product or services. Just make sure you use your business address for correspondences.

Similarly, job sites like Indeed can be great sources of information for your business, especially if your business offers specific services. You can search for postings in a specific field and in a specific location, which can help you find people in your area who are looking for your services. While some of these postings might involve full-time, in-house opportunities that your business would not be a good fit for, you may find others who are looking for part-time or contract work who would be happy to use your services.

Get reviews for your work.

Referrals and word of mouth are extremely effective advertising options, but they do have a downside. You can’t force people to give you strong reviews or refer you to their friends, so you don’t know just how much extra business you may get from one client.

The way you can increase your odds, though, is to consistently do good work. If your services or products are at their best, customers are more likely to appreciate them and give them strong reviews. After a project or transaction is complete, you could also send customers a survey regarding their opinions about their purchase. These surveys can be incredibly simple, with just a few questions, but you should get permission from your customers to publish their positive feedback on your website or promotional materials. Even if another potential customer doesn’t know the person providing the feedback, seeing a positive quote about your services may encourage them to choose your business.

Make sure you’re keeping up with social media advertising.

By consistently updating your social media accounts for your business, seeking out local Facebook groups for advertising, and investing in advertising on Instagram and Facebook, you not only build credibility for your business, but you increase the chances that a new customer will stumble across your business and find that you’re exactly what they’re looking for.
