You’ve probably heard of hashtags, but you might not have gotten a chance to dive deeply into them. Hashtags are a way to organize posts on social media–for example, if you search for “#Baking” you’ll be able to see all the posts that use that hashtag. As a rule of thumb, you should only use relevant hashtags for your posts, so you’d be able to see social posts relating to baking–and if you use relevant hashtags, then social media users searching for content like yours are better able to find it.

For this action item, try experimenting with hashtags in your social media posts. You don’t need to use a lot, and how many hashtags you can include in a post varies from platform to platform. Try to aim for a mixture of general and specific keywords that relate to your business. For example, if you run a dog-walking business in New York, some good hashtags might be #NewYork, #DogWalking, and #NYDogWalking.
