As we continue into the new year, now is the perfect time to give your writing routine a refresh! Start your year off strong by making a resolution to improve your writing routine, strengthen your skills, or connect with other writers. Make 2023 the year that you hit your writing goals, starting now!
Stuck on a writing resolution for the new year? Here are a few of our suggestions:
Make and stick to a daily writing routine
Or weekly, or monthly, or whatever works for you. The point is, making a regular habit out of writing can help you to write more, improve your skills, and give you confidence as you progress through your piece. By starting your habit now, you could have pages and pages completed by the end of the year!
Learn something new
It’s easy to stick to writing what you know, but try making 2023 the year you take off down a new path! That might mean experimenting with a new genre, or taking a creative writing class. There are many online courses as well as writing groups and classes offered through local organizations and adult education programs, so try experimenting and see which way of learning you prefer.
Network with other writers
Writing groups, classes, local readings–these are all great places to make friends with other writers! Throughout 2023, seek out others who enjoy your craft as much as you do. It can be helpful to talk through a case of writer’s block, or have someone to cheer on successes with. Most of all, hearing from other writers can give you helpful tips and inspiration for your own writing journey.
As always, keep reading!
And watching movies and television, and visiting museums, and hiking, and whatever other hobbies you enjoy. Practicing writing is always a good idea, but so is getting out of your own head and into another story or place. Make sure you take time for yourself this year, as that will only help your writing process.
